Shabbat Together 613 is built on trust. Both Shabbat Together guest and hosts agree to community guidelines that help every dinner feel welcoming, respectful, and safe.

  • Guest Commitments

    Arrive ready to participate respectfully; follow host household norms; practice kindness and inclusion; be mindful of alcohol; protect privacy; complete the registration/payment or subsidy request.

  • Host Commitments

    Create a welcoming space for diverse Jewish backgrounds; respect guest boundaries; uphold safety and respect; maintain an alcohol‑responsible environment; prohibit discrimination/harassment.

Code of Conduct for Shabbat Creators

As a Shabbat Together 613 Creator, you agree to:

  1. Create a Welcoming Space
    • Invite guests of diverse Jewish backgrounds, including interfaith families, patrilineal Jews, newcomers, and those with little or no Jewish literacy.
    • Respect each guest’s level of observance and personal boundaries.
  2. Uphold Safety and Respect
    • Maintain a safe, alcohol-responsible environment.
    • Prohibit discrimination, harassment, or offensive behaviour of any kind.Avoid political or religious coercion.
  3. Be Transparent and Organized
    • Accurately post event details (location, accessibility, dietary information, start/end time).
    • Greet all guests and facilitate introductions.
  4. Share Jewish Ritual in an Accessible Way
    • If including prayers or rituals, explain them simply so all can participate at their comfort level.
    • Offer resources for guests to follow along (printouts, translations, or explanations).
  5. Respect Privacy
    • Do not share guests’ personal information or photos without consent.
  6. Use Nourishment Dollars Responsibly
    • Funds are to offset the cost of food and preparation only, not for personal profit.
    • To qualify, at least 25% of the seats at your Shabbat Together must be marked as Open to Community subject to your approval as host.

Code of Conduct for Shabbat Together Guests

As a Shabbat Together 613 guest, you agree to:

  1. Arrive Ready to Participate Respectfully
    • Arrive on time or communicate promptly if you are running late.
    • Be open to meeting new people and engaging in the evening.
  2. Respect the Host’s Home and Rituals
    • Follow the host’s household rules (e.g., remove shoes, dietary needs, no phones during rituals if requested).
    • Participate in rituals at your comfort level while respecting the traditions being shared.
  3. Practice Kindness and Inclusion
    • Treat all participants with dignity and respect.
    • Avoid discriminatory, exclusionary, or disrespectful comments or behaviour.
  4. Be Mindful of Alcohol Use
    • Drink responsibly, if at all.
  5. Protect Privacy
    • Do not share names, contact details, or images of other guests without consent.
  6. Financial Contribution
    • Pay the $18 guest fee (or request a subsidy if needed) promptly through the program system.
